I love to photograph and paint. As I hung photographs for an art show recently, when I stepped back to look at the group I realized my photos have been rather painterly. It has been a natural progression from photography to painting for me. I've tried painting some of my photographs but I haven't liked the results so far. They are separate creations -- differently inspired and differently worked. Nature inspires my photographs while my paintings are very intuitive out of some unknown inner place. A commonality is color. Beautiful color draws me to photograph a flower or water and paintings often begin with an exploration of color.
Whatever the medium I feel lucky to be making art. Art adds so much to my life it amazes me. An hour painting can turn a bad day into a good one. It is simply a joy to create.
